Accent Capture - Refers to an image capture application that plays an important part in the document management systems of offices. It facilitates the scanning of paper documents and converts the scanned images into data that can be stored in a repository.
Content Server - With relation to document management, a content server is a set of software that sits on a server and interacts with a database to provide documents to the office. This helps to increase productivity by creating a base for all work related items.
EDMS - A commonly used acronym when it comes to document management systems and which stands for Electronic Document Management System.
Imaging - A generic term which essentially refers to the scanning of documents and importing them into an Electronic Document Management System. So far as document management is concerned, imaging usually infers a large scale scanning project.
Kofax - An application often associated with document management systems and one which offers device connectivity, image capture and processing software.
Metadata - This term literally means ‘data about data' and will often be heard in relation to document management systems. It is predominantly used to describe information about a document that is not actually included in the document itself.
TIFF - Another document management acronym. Stands for Tagged Image File Format which means a raster file format for images. TIFF are now the most commonly used format when it comes to graphics with high colour depth.
Workflow - Possibly the key component of a document management system and which refers to the embodiment of a work process. Workflow is a document management solution which involves implementing a series of distinct steps that are to be carried out in a specific order.
